Library Profile

The Union Theological Seminary Library supports the Seminary’s mission of excellent theological education and serves the academic, teaching, and research needs of both on-campus and online programs. As a member of Philippine Theological Library Association and Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines, the Library provides access to over 31,000 print titles, 175 e-books, and the The Digital Theological Library database. Through its resources, technology, and professional services, the library promotes learning, research, and theological formation, preparing the UTS community to respond faithfully to the challenges of a changing and globalized world.

Mission Statement

The Union Theological Seminary Library supports the faculty and students in pursuit of intellectual, academic and pastoral success. It helps them find resources to better understand, discuss and articulate their faith in the world. The library serves the UTS cultural context by providing information for a more accurate understanding of the role of theology in the transformation of church and society.

Collection

The Union Theological Seminary (UTS) Library maintains diverse print, digital, archival, and special collections that support teaching, learning, research, and ministry. Its major collections include:

  1. Circulation Collection – Theology, biblical studies, church history, ministry, mission, Asian and intercultural studies, and related fields.
  2. Reserve Collection – Course-related materials designated by faculty.
  3. Filipiniana Collection – Materials about the Philippines, Filipino authors, and Philippine publications.
  4. Reference Collection – Dictionaries, encyclopedias, commentaries, concordances, bibliographies, atlases, and other reference materials for in-library use.
  5. Media Collection – DVDs, CDs, cassette tapes, and videotapes.
  6. Archival Collection – Historical documents on churches, Protestantism, and local church history in the Philippines.
  7. Special Collections – UTS historical records and collections of Benjamin I. Guansing, Liberato Bautista, Feliciano Cariño, and Methodist Studies materials.
  8. Periodical Collection – Current and back issues of journals and other periodicals for in-library use.
  9. Electronic/Digital Collection – GDTL database and e-books accessible on-site and remotely.
  10. Faculty Publications Collection – Publications authored by UTS faculty and used as course references.

CATALOG

The Union Theological Seminary (UTS) Library organizes its main book collection using the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) Scheme and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) to ensure systematic organization, efficient retrieval, and easy access to its theological and academic resources. The library uses FOLLETT as its integrated library system (ILS), providing users with seamless online access to the library catalog and bibliographic information of its print and electronic resources.

Our librarians continuously enhance their expertise through professional development, training, conferences, and active participation in library organizations, ensuring that our services remain relevant, effective, and responsive to the needs of our users.
